does not own nor
operate vessels

Any holder of a Certificate of Competency
(CoC), expired or otherwise/Holder of a
Maritime-affiliated Degree having served a
maritime entity for more than 12-months/
Holder of a General Degree with at least 24
months service with a maritime entity/
Harbour Pilot with Unrestricted Licence
ASSOCIATE
MEMBER
Ratings holding a Certificate of
Proficiency (CoP)
STUDENT
MEMBER
Any cadet following a Certificate of
Competency (CoC) course/Student at
a maritime-affiliated university
What are the Grades of Membership of IKMAL ?
There are seven (7) grades of membership:
1) Corporate Member – this is restricted to maritime entities except ship
owning/ship-management entities. Fee is RM 1000.00 per year enabling it to
send two (2) representatives to all IKMAL functions;
2) Life Member – this is for members holding Certificate of Competency (CoC)/
maritime-affiliated academic degree preferring to do so. Fee is RM 1000.00, one
time payment;
3) Ordinary Member – holder of Certificate of Competency (CoC)/maritime
affiliated academic degree. Fee is RM 100.00 annually;

maritime-affiliated academic degree preferring to do so. Fee is RM 1000.00, one

3) Ordinary Member – holder of Certificate of Competency (CoC)/maritime
affiliated academic degree. Fee is RM 100.00 annually;
4) Associate Member – holder of Certificate of Proficiency (CoP)– Ratings. Fee is
RM 60.00 annually;
5) Student Member – a cadet undergoing Certificate of Competency (CoC)
courses/an undergraduate following a maritime academic course at any of the
maritime-affiliated universities. Fee is RM 20.00 annually;
6) Fellows – a Life Member who has been acknowledged by IKMAL as befitting
to be accorded such an acknowledgement;
7) Honorary Fellows – a non-IKMAL member who has contributed immensely
towards the development of Malaysia’s maritime and shipping sector in
particular and/or the global industry and acknowledged by IKMAL.

5) Student Member – a cadet undergoing Certificate of Competency (CoC)
courses/an undergraduate following a maritime academic course at any of the
maritime-affiliated universities. Fee is RM 20.00 annually;
6) Fellows – a Life Member who has been acknowledged by IKMAL as befitting
to be accorded such an acknowledgement;
